Humanity needs to protect and look after its natural resources and manage the impacts of industry on the environment and balance that with the need for fuels and minerals. However, to use lies and untruths to implement policy and hold on to power is an insult and threat to the voting taxpayers and consumers, their job security, cost of living and Australia's economic future. Queensland voters have just annihilated the Labor Party reducing them to an embarrassing seven seats. The Federal Election will follow with Labor currently on 28% of the vote.  Gillard, Thomson, Swan, Bligh et al and the Greens have destroyed the Australian Labor Party and all the back benchers sit back and just watch. CATA RESPONSE TO CARBON TAX ANNOUNCEMENT Following today’s announcement by Labors Julia Gillard regards the governments Carbon Tax Legislation, the Consumers and Taxpayers Association rejects this proposed legislation based on the following:   1. Julia Gillard said just days before the last election that their would be no carbon tax under the government I lead.   2. The policy has been so watered down that it is pointless, expensive and will draw on the bottom line of the budget.   3. The tax will cause cost of living increases over the coming years for all Australians that will cause unnecessary hardship for many.   4. We do not believe that the compensation will cover the increase in the cost of living.   5. Australia’s national and international economic standing will suffer greatly under continued uncertainty and high taxing policies.   6. Increase in pension and child payment as well as tax cuts are obtainable from budget savings rather than increases to reverse a tax.   7. CATA believes that the environment can be properly nutured through direct action environmental policies.     THE BIG SIX MYTHS OF THE FAILING GILLARD GOVERNMENT GILLARD LIE  1: "There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead" said Julia Gillard six days before the last election in 2010. Answer: Febuary 24th 2011 Gillard said outside Parliament there will be a carbon tax.

GILLARD LIE 2: CO2 carbon dioxide is polluting the earth's atmosphere and creating global warming. Answer:. Carbon Dioxide CO2 is a clean, clear trace gas essential for plant life, without it mankind would not be able to survive, it is 100% beneficial. According to climate scientist David Archibald "we are now in a period of cooling since 1998 and our CO2 levels are too low for prime plant life" Now that makes sense just look at North Korea at the moment, too cold & low CO2= no food, cant grow, so would a carbon tax help them if implemented?

GILLARD LIE 3: Humans are mainly to blame for CO2 emissions. Answer: Nature produces 97% of all CO2 emissions and humans produces 3%. Professor Tim Flannery the government head climate spokesman stated "Even if all the world today stopped emitting CO2, it would take probably 1000 yrs to maybe affect global temperature if any." That is a very very weak conviction on such an important issue.

GILLARD LIE 4: Australia has been made to feel guilty about our CO2 emissions. Answer: Australia produces only 2% of that 3% which is .06% of CO2 going into the atmosphere from all sources.

GILLARD LIE 5: A carbon tax in Australia will change the CO2 emissions output in an unknown period of time. Answer: A carbon tax will do essentially nothing at all to overall CO2 emissions. This tax will simply allow big industries to continue as before but now they will pass on to consumers the extra tax imposed on them. All this while China & India can buy as much coal they need from Australia.

GILLARD LIE 6: Consumers to be compensated due to higher cost of living rises from a carbon tax. Answer: The Green's have stated from both Christine Milne & Sarah Hanson-Young that carbon should be priced at least $100 per ton. The carbon tax of $23 per tonne will keep going up year after year.How can the Government adequately compensate for a tax that will force up the price of almost everything. NSW Treasury have reported that electricity alone will go up by $300 per household almost double the amount forecast by the Government. The Federal Goverment Treasury modelling appears to have been worked out on a price of $20 per tonne, however the price announced by the Prime Minister was $23.

Members of the general public who gathered at Parliament House March 23rd 2011 to protest the carbon tax and were chastised in parliament by Julia Gillard's Ministers as being extremists, dinosaurs, members of the ku klux klan and ratbags. These comments came from elected Federal Labor Government members who were voted into their position by many of those present at the rally.
